Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the adventure! Here's what to expect and how to prepare:
Important: Everything will get damp in the jungle humidity. Pack clothes in plastic bags inside your luggage, and bring a dry bag for electronics. The jungle is alive, beautiful, and transformative - come prepared.
This page serves as your complete guide - bookmark it and refer back for all the details about travel, packing, activities, and what to expect during your stay.
We're arranging airport shuttles for all guests (cost split among passengers), or you can take a private transfer (~$200 USD door-to-door). The journey takes 3.5-4 hours from San José (SJO) airport.
We recommend arriving on Wednesday, October 8. If you need a different arrival time, please let us know when you RSVP and we'll work with you individually. The Celebration of Love is Friday evening, October 10.
Not at all! While some Spanish is helpful for exploring on your own, Florestral is an international community where English is widely spoken. We'll have bilingual support throughout the event.
We provide lodging at Florestral and all onsite meals during your stay. Your costs: airfare to Costa Rica and any optional excursions.
We have multiple accommodation options at Florestral. All accommodations are free for wedding guests. See our full Accommodations page for detailed descriptions of each option, capacity, and amenities.
Absolutely! Many guests use this as an opportunity to explore Costa Rica. We can help coordinate extended lodging at Florestral (subject to availability) or recommend nearby options. The official event ends Monday, October 13, but you're welcome to make a vacation of it!
The essentials: bug spray, reef-safe sunscreen, flashlight/headlamp, good rain jacket (you'll really need it!), quick-dry clothing, swimsuit, water shoes, and a reusable water bottle.
See our complete packing list with everything you'll need for the jungle, activities, and ceremony.
October is peak rainy season with potential for heavy tropical downpours. Costa Rica is lush, green, and vibrantly alive during the "green season." Expect warm days (75-85°F), cooler evenings (65-70°F), and significant rainfall. Pack layers and quality rain gear.
No special vaccinations are required for Costa Rica. However, it's always good to be up-to-date on routine vaccines. Consult your doctor if you have concerns. Malaria is not a risk in this area.
Not at all. All events and outings are optional. You're welcome to attend only the main events and enjoy your own family time. This is your vacation - participate in what calls to you.
We have tons of options both on-site and nearby! From morning yoga to waterfall hikes to beach days. Check out our full Activities page for all the adventures waiting for you, including Goddess Falls, La Ceiba, and more. Most activities are free or low-cost.
There's an optional Sacred Plant Medicine Ceremony (Ayahuasca) on Sunday evening for those called to participate. This is completely optional and separate from the Celebration of Love festivities.
Important: If you wish to participate in the Sacred Plant Medicine Ceremony, you'll need to:
Please indicate your interest on the RSVP and we'll send you the additional requirements and preparation guidelines.
Dress Code: Ceremonial whites are required for the Sacred Plant Medicine Ceremony - white clothing is traditional for all participants.
We encourage colorful, flowy, comfortable attire that reflects the jungle setting! Think bohemian, tropical, or whatever makes you feel beautiful. No formal wear needed - this is a barefoot-friendly celebration. The Celebration of Love is outdoors at sunset.
WiFi is available at the Hosting Center, though it can be intermittent. Cell service is limited but usually works in certain spots. Consider it a digital detox opportunity! Let loved ones know you'll have limited connectivity.
Our kitchen crew is experienced with various dietary needs. Please specify any restrictions or allergies on your RSVP (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, etc.) and we'll make sure you're well-fed with delicious options!
Yes, absolutely. This is a family celebration. Our four boys - Rhys (16), Jude (14), Grey (10), and Keir (8) - will be there and would love to have other children to explore with.
Kid-Friendly Features:
While some evening events (late-night dancing, ceremonies) are more adult-oriented, there's SO much for kids to enjoy. Florestral is a place where kids can be kids - getting muddy, exploring nature, and having real adventures. Bring them - the jungle is an incredible classroom!
You can use your card almost anywhere in Costa Rica! However, we recommend getting about $100 USD worth of Costa Rican colones (~50,000 colones) from a BNC (Banco Nacional) or BCR ATM for best exchange rates. Having some colones is helpful for small purchases, tips, and local vendors who prefer cash.
Not at all! Everything at Florestral is within walking distance, and we'll arrange shuttles for any group excursions like beach days. The beauty of staying on-site is that you can walk everywhere - from your accommodation to meals to activities.
No gifts please - just come celebrate with us. We'll have small favors for everyone as a thank you for making the trip.
Just show up! If you want to share a talent during free time (music, massage, teaching), let us know.
Yes! Our kids roam the land freely, and people rarely lock their doors (or probably even know if they lock). The land is gated with a code and no one comes or goes without someone in the informal community watch knowing about it. We are probably safer than where you live! Florestral is a tight-knit community where everyone looks out for each other.
There's a medical clinic in Platanillo (20 minutes away) and hospitals in San Isidro (45 minutes). We'll have first aid supplies on-site and emergency contacts readily available. Please bring any personal medications you need - pharmacies are limited in rural areas.
The tap water at Florestral is safe to drink. Don't drink river water. Bring a reusable water bottle and stay hydrated - the jungle humidity is real!
You'll be in the jungle with its amazing biodiversity! Expect various insects and possible wildlife sightings (monkeys, sloths, birds). Most creatures are harmless and avoid humans. Always check shoes before wearing and use bug spray!
